A rug does not move all at once. It travels a few millimetres each time somebody crosses it, always in the direction people walk, and after a year the corner that started square with the wall is a hand span out. An underlay stops that by giving the rug something to hold that the floor cannot slide against, and it does it across the whole footprint rather than at the four corners.
Buy the pad two inches shorter than the rug on each side and trim it with scissors if it lands proud: an underlay that shows past the edge collects dust and makes the rug edge stand up. The twelve sizes here run 2 by 3, 2 by 6, 2 by 8, 3 by 5, 4 by 6, 5 by 7, 5 by 8, 6 by 9, 7 by 10, 8 by 10 and 9 by 12 feet, plus a 15 by 54 inch runner width, so most standard rugs have a size that only needs a trim on one edge.

Take the rug size and go one standard size down, then trim. A pad an inch short on each side disappears under the rug; a pad that reaches the edge lifts it. Scissors are enough for any of the pads on this page.
Is a Gorilla Grip rug pad safe on your hardwood floor?
These pads are made to sit on a sealed hard floor without bonding to it. Two habits protect a finish whatever pad is under it: lift the rug and let the floor breathe every few months, and do not put a pad down over a floor finish that has been applied in the last few weeks.
Will a Gorilla Grip rug pad work on your carpet?
They are made for hard floors: wood, tile, vinyl, sealed concrete. On top of another carpet there is nothing rigid for the grip structure to hold, and a rug over carpet is better handled with corner grippers than with a full underlay.
